In 2023, Amorentia Macadamia Nursery celebrates 50 years of Macadamia Nursery Tree propagation. We have enjoyed a long history of Macadamias and are proud of the role we have played in the South African Macadamia industry, from the development of protocols and techniques, to dispatching millions of trees which have undoubtedly contributed to South Africa’s status as the world’s largest Macadamia producer.

At Amorentia, we aim for excellence.
Our Mother Material originates from our own production blocks, where historical data confirms high-performing Mother trees. The ongoing result is that we offer our growers high-yield potential from the start. It also means that we control our propagation processes by not relying on third parties for scions or cuttings, eliminating the risk of cultivar confusion and the risk of contamination from dreaded pests or diseases.
These factors cannot be more relevant when considering the current risks to the Macadamia industry.
Over the years we’ve fine-tuned our propagation and orchard development skills, keeping abreast with innovations while maintaining our family business ethos.
We find ourselves celebrating 50 years within a watershed year for the industry. On the upside, we have seen this sort of bump in the road before and understand that the market prices will stabilise again. At Amorentia, we stand by the Global Macadamia Industry, recognising the small percentage we make up of the world’s Fruit & Nut basket, which only highlights the room for expansion into the wider nut market. Amorentia understands that farming is a long-term investment and that good farmers have the grit to withstand the dip that the Macadamia industry is facing. We are comforted somewhat, by the knowledge that it is not only our precious nut experiencing the current market climate; all nuts are in the position.
Amorentia knows, and can attest to the fact, that Macadamias are still a solid investment, offering good returns per hectare when compared to other crops.
After 50 years, our best advice is this: “now is the time to plant more trees, because when the market is up again, your trees will be in full production.”
